What goes into every Skylit Studio print
Real astronomy, not decoration
Every map is plotted from the Hipparcos, Tycho-2 and Gaia catalogues with official IAU constellation boundaries, then projected exactly as the sky sat above your chosen place, to the minute. The moon prints carry the true phase and orientation for that date and location.
Printed on our own press
LUCIA PRO II pigment inks on 260gsm photo lustre paper, colour managed in house on our own large format press. Printing under our own roof is how the deep black behind the stars and the fine type at the base hold to one standard, order after order.
Nothing prints until it is right
You build the piece on screen and watch it update as you go, choosing the shape, the border, the wording and the sky itself. Our free Night Sky Explorer lets you find the exact moment first. What you approve on screen is what comes off the press.

When I first walked through it, the place felt right. Like our star maps, it holds onto moments. It’s where every Skylit piece is now made — old house, night sky, one roof.

Hi, I’m Axel — founder and creative director of Skylit Studio.
My journey with the stars began long before Skylit Studio. I still remember getting the iPhone 5 back in like 2013 – the camera felt revolutionary at the time. One clear night, while relaxing in my garden chair, I pointed it up at the sky and tried to capture the stars. The photo came out rather dark and boring. But then I started playing with the contrast, brightness, and exposure – and suddenly, little glimmers appeared. I thought I’d uncovered something magical. Only later did I realise I’d accidentally created digital artefacts. But in that moment, it felt like I had brought stars to life on screen – and something about that never left me.
I even shared that very photo on Instagram back then:
Years later, that fascination with the night sky became Skylit Studio — a way to help others hold onto their most meaningful moments. Whether it’s a wedding night or the birth of a child, I believe those memories deserve more than a photo on your phone. They deserve a place on your wall.
From selecting the paper to handing off parcels to the courier, I oversee every step. No outsourcing. Because putting your name behind your work means something.

That curiosity from my garden never left me, and it is why I built our Night Sky Explorer: a free, interactive planetarium you can open right now. Choose any date, time and place, and the real stars, planets and Moon appear just as they were. Travel through time, tap a star to hear its story, and when you find a moment worth keeping, turn it into a print. It is the closest thing to that first night pointing a camera up at the sky, only now the whole sky is yours.
