LONDON · FITZROVIA

BT Tower, your way.

The 177-metre Fitzrovia spire, the West End around it, and the lattice of microwave aerials that used to bounce telephone calls across the country — rendered in 3D from real map data. Rotate, tilt and zoom to the angle you want, pick a colour theme to match your room, and we'll print it from our Manchester studio.

THE STORY

177 metres of Cold War microwave infrastructure, opened 1965.

Originally the Post Office Tower. Eric Bedford designed it as a microwave relay point — a tall, slender column with the equipment galleries banded around its upper section — and it opened to the public in 1965 as the tallest building in the UK, which it remained until the NatWest Tower overtook it in 1980. The revolving restaurant on the 34th floor became a London institution; an IRA bomb in 1971 prompted its closure to the public.

The print you'll design captures the tower with Fitzrovia around it, the rooftops of Marylebone and Bloomsbury below, and the West End falling away to the south. The 3D model shows the cylindrical shaft, the cantilevered equipment galleries, and the mast at the crown as they actually stand today.

SHOWN IN 3D

Real microwave tower, real West End setting.

Most BT Tower prints reduce it to a flat lollipop silhouette. This one doesn't. The tower renders as a detailed 3D model — the cylindrical shaft, the equipment galleries at the top, the mast — sitting in real geographic context with the streets of Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury and Marylebone below. It's stylised map art rather than a photograph, but the silhouette, scale and setting are real.

Pick dawn, day or dusk for the lighting. Pick a colour theme — classic ink, ivory, midnight, monochrome and more. Tilt the camera anywhere from straight-down to near-horizon, rotate to any compass bearing, zoom to the crop you want. Every choice you make is in the print.

WHO IT'S FOR

The flat in Fitzrovia, the late-night view from a roof terrace, and the tower you always navigated by.

Some BT Tower prints commemorate a specific year — the first flat in Fitzrovia, the office on the 12th floor across the road, the rooftop bar you ran to with friends after every late shift. The customizer lets you drop a pin (or several) and the print shows them right where they belong on the map.

Others want just the tower and the neighbourhood at its feet — undecorated, framed, hung above a desk as a quiet record of a London era. Both ship from Manchester rolled, framed or canvas-wrapped.
