Until now, making a Skylit star map meant coming to our website and choosing your moment by hand in the customiser. It is a lovely way to do it, and it is not going anywhere. But there is a second way in now, and it is almost startlingly simple. You can just ask ChatGPT.
Describe the night you want to remember, and a real, personalised star map appears right there in the conversation, ready to refine, wrap and order. Here is how the new Skylit Studio app works.
Now in the ChatGPT App Store
Skylit Studio is now a published app inside ChatGPT, one of the first personalised-gift studios to arrive in its directory. Ask for a star map by name and it knows how to design one, show it to you, and carry it all the way to checkout, without you opening a separate tab to begin.
Just describe the moment
This is the part that still feels a little like magic. Type something such as “create me a star map for June 7 2023, Lake Como, to mark our third wedding anniversary,” and Skylit Studio lays it out on the spot. The real sky over that place and date, your message lettered across it, the size and finish already chosen, the price shown, and a checkout button, all inside the conversation.
Change anything, just by asking
Do not love the background? Ask for it brighter. Want a different theme, a heart shape, or a particular font? Say so in plain words and the design updates in place. There are no menus to hunt through, just the conversation you were already having.
Open the full design view
When you want finer control, the preview opens into a full design view. Switch between compositions and shapes, change the theme and accent colour, and toggle the constellations, the grid, the labels, the planets and the Milky Way. Everything our website customiser offers is here, brought inside the chat.
Wrap it as a gift
Most of these maps are gifts, so the wrapping lives right alongside the design. Add a ribbon, gift wrap, or the bundle from £2.49, choose a ribbon colour, and write a gift note, all in the same conversation. It arrives ready to give.
How to add it
Open ChatGPT, find Skylit Studio in the apps directory, and tap Connect. From there, just describe the moment you want to capture. You do not need a paid plan, only a ChatGPT account. Prefer not to add an app at all? Our Custom GPT does the same thing.
Questions, answered
Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan?
No. You just need a ChatGPT account. The Skylit Studio app works without a subscription.
Does it cost anything to use?
Using the app is free. You only pay for the print itself, and any gift wrapping you add, at checkout.
How do I pay, and is it secure?
When your design is ready, a secure Stripe checkout takes the payment. That is the one step that opens outside the chat, and we never see your card details. Everything else, from designing to wrapping, happens in the conversation.
Is the star map the real sky?
Yes. It is drawn from the same astronomical data as our website and our printed maps, so the design is true to the exact night you choose.
What sizes and prices are there?
Five sizes from A4 to 60×80 cm, as an unframed print, framed, or canvas, from £21.99 to £119.98. Free UK shipping, with same-day dispatch before 3PM.
Can I still design on the website?
Of course. The website customiser is not going anywhere. The ChatGPT app is simply another way in.
A note from the maker
Hi, I am Axel, the founder of Skylit Studio.
I have always wanted Skylit to meet people where they already are, rather than asking them to come and find us. For years that meant the website, then a free planetarium, and now this. More and more people are starting to plan and shop by simply talking to an assistant, and it felt right that designing something as personal as a star map should be possible there too, in the same easy back and forth you would have with a friend who happens to know the night sky.
It is still the same Skylit underneath. The same real astronomical data, the same fine paper and framing, the same care in the post. Only now the first step can be a single sentence.

Find your moment
The Skylit Studio app is free to use, and the map it makes is true to the exact night you choose, the same sky that was genuinely overhead. When you find a moment worth keeping, it prints on fine paper, framed, and ships to your door.
Open Skylit Studio in ChatGPT and tell it about your night. Your birthday, your anniversary, the evening you want to remember. It already knows the sky; it is simply waiting for the story.
